    President Adrianne Johnson was awarded the National Branch Advocacy Award at the ACA Annual Meeting in New Orleans.  This award is presented to the State or Branch Chapter that is seen as exemplary in their motivated efforts to protect clients from harm, to shape licensure language, and promote ethical clinical practice in their state.  The OCA was also awarded this honor in 2016, 2013 and 2011. 

    Special thanks go out to the Government Relations Committee chaired by Sean Gorby.

    Keep up the good work Ohio!

    The 2019 All Ohio Counselors Conference Call for Proposals is now open. This year’s AOCC will be held November 6-8, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus.

    The AOCC is a joint conference hosted by the Ohio Counseling Association (OCA) and the Ohio School Counselor Association (OSCA). The AOCC seeks quality proposals that focus on relevant and practical topics related to the school and mental health counseling professions. Please consider sharing your expertise, creative programs and best practices with colleagues from across the state.

    Amanda Sines, our Lobbyist announced this morning that Lori Criss has been named the Director of ODMHAS. Criss is currently a leader in the Ohio Council of Behavioral Health Provider’s. Amanda works with her often on issues of importance to OCA. This is a very strong choice by Gov Elect DeWine and good for OCA members!

    Remember to register for Legislative Advocacy Day (March 19) to learn more and meet with your representatives in downtown Columbus!

    Registration is open for the March 20-21, 2019 Spring Conference.  10 CE Credit Hours over 2 days including Ethics, Supervision, and General topics.  A networking reception with student Poster Sessions caps off Day One and a special track for Grad Students on Day Two will be a real career booster!  Keynotes, breakouts, and invited speakers will fill your Counselor Head with all the current info you've been seeking!  REGISTER HERE and see the program details.

    Next week the Ohio House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on H.B. 81 which exempts individuals who were seriously mentally ill at the time of their crime from the death penalty.  Anything you can do to contact your legislators in the House and urge them to vote yes would be greatly appreciated!  All members of OCA and their peers/coworkers/staff are encouraged to take action.
