Committees

Interested in volunteering? OCA has a number of opportunities for members to volunteer for our various committees. Interested members are encouraged to consider how their skills and expertise might be best utilized to advance OCA's mission. Contact the OCA Executive Director, Amy Barcelo, at OCAExec@gmail.com to get connected with a committee chair.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee is responsible for the creation and distribution of awards. The committee is expected to select recipients from a pool of nominees, present awards at the AOCC conference, and create new awards with coordination from the Executive Board and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Cultural Dignity Committee.


Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Cultural Dignity Committee

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Cultural Dignity Committee is responsible for promoting inclusivity and diversity in OCA and the counseling profession. The committee is expected to conduct community outreach programs, find diverse speakers for the OCA Speakers Bureau, conduct surveys of OCA members, and work with other organizations and committees to promote advocacy.


Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for OCA’s yearly budget. This committee is composed of the Executive Director, President, President-Elect, Past-President, Treasurer, and an appointed Finance Committee Chair.


Government Relations Committee

The Government Relations Committee is responsible for communicating and collaborating with the state government of Ohio. This committee is composed of representatives from various contracted lobbyists and OCA’s Chapters and Divisions among other activists and liaisons. The committee is expected to work with the Ohio Congress on counseling legislation, communicate with lobbyists and boards, and testify in legislative hearings.


Graduate Student Committee

The Graduate Student Committee is responsible for assisting graduate students pursuing a career in counseling. The committee is expected to provide programming aimed towards graduate students at conferences, such as the Graduate Student Panel and the Graduate Student Poster Presentation.


Insurance Advocacy Committee

The Insurance Advocacy Committee is responsible for helping OCA members connect with insurance. The committee is expected to cooperate with insurance companies and educate OCA members through training, resources, and assistance.


Leadership Development Committee

The Leadership Development Committee is responsible for leadership coordination and training to empower OCA’s current and future leaders. The committee is expected to communicate with OCA’s members and committees to recruit new leaders and support through networking and mentoring.


Media, Public Relations & Membership Committee

The Media, Public Relations & Membership Committee is responsible for OCA’s media presence and member recruitment efforts. The committee is expected to make content for OCA’s social media sites and publish OCA’s newsletter The Counselor Connection.


Political Action Committee 

The Political Action Committee is responsible for maintaining OCA’s PAC. Unlike other counsils, the Political Action Committee can be joined by any licensed counselor in OCA voluntarily. The committee is expected to manage the PAC funds, communicate with lobbyists and OCA councils, and represent the PAC’s policies.


Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee is responsible for developing educational material for OCA’s programs and conferences. The committee is expected to coordinate with professional development and licensure groups, approve professional development plans, create material for conferences, and communicate with OCA’s Executive Director.
