    Hello OCA members,

I wanted to inform you of an excellent opportunity for faculty, students, and practicing counselors in Ohio. The Alpha Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota at Ohio University is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the second Virtual CSI Ohio Conference on Saturday March 26, 2022. We are also excited to share that this year’s conference will be free to all attendees to make it more accessible!

Please consider submitting a proposal related to the conference theme of Social Justice in Counseling & Counselor Education or forwarding this opportunity to interested parties. Proposals will be due on January 1st and presenters will be notified of acceptance by January 15th. We are hoping for a diverse range of presenters including practicing clinicians who can offer professional knowledge to counselors in training. There are three different options for presenters to choose from: workshop, presentation, and poster. If you are interested in attending the conference, registration will open in January. If you have any questions, please reach out to Gene Dockery at gd796619@ohio.edu.

Are you a current OCA leader?

Are you interested in becoming a leader?

Want to build a helpful leadership toolbox for your role?

Check out OCA’s latest NEW and FREE membership benefit – the Leadership Certificate Program - set to launch in January 2022! This brief, fun, and practical experience is designed for any graduate student, new professional, or seasoned professional, who is either a current or emerging leader within OCA. Offered primarily online (introduction and final sessions are live), participants register for a series (winter, spring, summer, fall) and then asynchronously watch six mini learning modules. Total time commitment for participants is approximately four hours. Modules are taught by past and present OCA leaders who bring their latest insight to some of the most significant aspects of being a leader in our association. Leaders will learn important information about OCA executive goals and plans and gain the important knowledge and skills for holding a leadership role in our state association. Learn how to strengthen the effectiveness of your division, chapter, or committee by applying best practices for membership growth, servant leadership, governance, finances, legislative advocacy, as well as understand the CE approval process. Participants will benefit from meeting and networking with other leaders and will receive mentorship and guidance for next steps. After completing all six modules participants receive a certificate of completion from OCA and will be recognized at the All Ohio Counselors Conference or the Annual Spring Conference. Participants will come away excited, confident, and empowered to help move our state association forward!

Questions? Email laurajlewiscounseling@gmail.com. Leadership Certificate registration and information pages are coming soon to the OCA website!

Heading to the AOCC? Stop by the OCA Leadership Certificate Open House in the Hyatt Marion Room on Thursday, October 28 from 11am-12pm to learn more, ask questions, and talk with OCA Leadership Committee Chair, Laura Lewis.

Register to attend the AOCC Conference THIS WEEK as the price goes up after midnight Friday (my birthday!). We have no virtual option this year as we have contractual requirements with the hotel from last year (and this year) and must meet live. So come to Columbus, join us at the Hyatt, and reacquaint yourself with your Counselor colleagues!
