Death of an Abuser: Navigating Grief & Loss with Survivors of IPV

The death of an abuser can create complicated grief experiences for survivors as they death occurs within an existing traumatic context due to relationship violence. Within IPV, abusers may threaten suicide to maintain power and control over the victim. What are the impacts on the survivor when the abuser follows through with the threat of suicide? Death may also occur naturally, leaving the survivor in a complex state of grief and trauma. This presentation seeks to examine these impacts and present strategies for working with survivors.
