Many clinicians recognized that they need additional experience and training to effectively work with couples, particularly with interventions for infidelity. This workshop will teach an assessment process for identifying the trauma responses of discovery of infidelity and how these responses are similar to the diagnostic criteria of PTSD. Participants will learn the therapeutic protocol and stages for treatment of infidelity from a systemic perspective as well as a trauma-informed approach. Emphases will be placed on assessing and managing the early crisis of discovery and subsequent treatment of the underlying relational precipitants to the affair. Participants will also learn specific interventions for each stage of the treatment protocol.

Objectives:
1. Learn the components of the Trauma Response to Infidelity Inventory and its use in assessment.
2. Learn the stages of treatment for infidelity.

3. Learn keys boundaries that need to be set early in treatment.
4. Learn how to manage triggers of the betrayed spouse.
5. Learn how to help the betraying partner disclose their affair to their partner.
6. Understand the function of revenge fantasies and how to manage them in session.

Continuing Education:
