The Impacts of IPV on LGBTQ+ Survivors – Thursday, October 22 | 1:00-2:30 PM

*This training has been approved by the SOH, CSWMFTB for 1.5 CEs for counselors and social workers.

*This training is being offered on a donation-basis. All donations support our efforts to provide critical services to survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual violence and human trafficking.

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, members of the LGBTQ+ community experience intimate partner violence at equal or higher rates when compared to heterosexual couples. IPV survivors within the LGBTQ+ community face additional barriers due to discrimination, fear of being “outed” by an abusive partner, and lack of support. Additionally, survivors from the LGBTQ+ may not have access to the same legal protections as heterosexual survivors when leaving an abusive relationship. This training will explore IPV within LGBTQ+ relationships, the unique challenges and barriers LGBTQ+ survivors face, and the impacts of trauma on survivors. Finally, information on providing culturally-competent services to LGBTQ+ survivors will be presented. Presented by Clarissa Jones, MSW, LSW
