Debora K. Wallace-Woods, LPCC-S, LICDC, will be presenting on Ethics & Secondary Trauma between 9 AM and 12 PM. As Counselors, we are well aware of the importance of providing our clients with trauma-informed care to prevent further traumatization. The question is: Has enough attention been given to considering how secondary trauma impacts professional Counselors and their ability to make ethically informed decisions?  This presentation will focus on the differentiation of various kinds of trauma (e.g., secondary traumatic stress, vicarious vs. shared trauma, etc.) and how impaired practitioners risk violating ethical principles.  Preventative measures necessary for maintaining our well-being and cultural sensitivity related to ethical considerations will all be discussed.

Jessica Fowler, M.A., LPC, LPCC-S, will be presenting on Supervision & Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) between 1 and 4 PM. This presentation will provide information on ways to provide culturally competent, trauma-aware supervision.  Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) can lead to job dissatisfaction, apathy, compassion fatigue and burnout. During this training, participants will learn to recognize symptomatic employees, effective supervision strategies, and ways to recommend culturally sensitive self-care.  Participants will explore their own STS related to providing supervision.  Supervisors will be able to use cultural sensitivity when providing self-care strategies to supervisees.
