SUPPORTING STUDENTS OF COLOR IN TODAY’S SCHOOLS

Description:    School counselors are responsible for the mental health and academic development of all the students in the school.  Support for students who identify as BIPOC involves doing your own bias work; listening to the needs of students and families; recruiting allies from families, students, and colleagues; and engaging in long-term conversations with administration in the face of anticipated resistance.  These nuanced strategies will be contextualized in light of Black Lives Matter, racialized policing, and racialized institutional norms embedded in K-12 educational systems.

Number of hours of workshop: 90 minutes

Presenter: Dr. Colette Dollarhide, Professor, Program Chair, Associate Chair, President of Counselors for Social Justice (2020-2021)

Date and Time: November 19, Thursday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST

Cost: $15.00
