Approximately 15.5 million children are exposed to domestic violence each year, according to the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Children exposed to violence are at an increased risk for mental health disorders, substance abuse, repeated attempts to run away from home, and other risky behaviors. This course will define intimate partner violence, trauma, as well as to examine the impacts of intimate partner violence on children in order to promote a better understanding of the trauma that occurs in this context so clinicians are better equipped to serve children exposed to intimate partner violence.
