The workshops are designed for mental health professionals working toward gaining their supervision credential/license, obtaining continuing education in supervision to maintain supervision licensure, or gain knowledge in supervision. Workshops are didactic and experiential. Participants may take individual workshops, and workshops do not have to be taken in numeric sequence to benefit from them.

NEW: Group Supervision: Considerations and Ethical/Legal Issues (Part 5)—June 11, 2019. This workshop provides an overview of group supervision. Several different models will be introduced including an adaptation of reflecting team supervision, and participants will have opportunity to use different approaches. Additionally, the ethical issues unique to group supervision will be addressed along with discussion of group supervision contracts. Cases studies include supervision of both family therapy and addiction professionals.

Part 1: Basics in Supervision: Assessment, Evaluation, and Remediation—June 20, 2019. This workshop covers procedural issues in supervision, such as supervisory contracts, goal setting, assessment and evaluation of the supervisee, monitoring of supervisee performance, feedback mechanisms, and remediation of problematic supervisee.

Part 2: Supervision and Counselor Development—June 21, 2019). This workshop covers models of supervision, stages of supervisee development, supervision interventions, cultural differences and multicultural competencies, relational dynamics in the supervisory process, and awareness of the developmental process of the supervisory relationship itself.

Part 3: Management and Administration: Supervisory Issues—July 11, 2019. This workshop covers organizational processes and procedures for supervisee recordkeeping, reporting and monitoring of supervisees cases, Ohio laws and professional standards, agency or institutional policies and procedures, roles and responsibilities of supervisors and supervisees, multiple roles of supervisors, strategies to help supervisees advance to optimum performance, productivity and job satisfaction, and preventing burnout.

Part 4: Professional Responsibilities & Legal/Ethical Issues in Supervision—July 12, 2019. This workshop covers ethical and legal issues in supervision; regulatory issues including Ohio laws; route of reporting ethical violations; confidentiality and maintaining professionalism; and professional boundaries.

Presenter: Paula J. Britton, Ph.D.

Paula is a Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at John Carroll University. She is a licensed psychologist and a PCC-S, with over thirty years of diverse clinical experience including being an administrator and supervisor in a family service agency, a project director of a large research grant, and a clinician in a private practice. She has given over 100 local, state, and national professional presentations and workshops in the areas of supervision and ethics as well as authoring numerous publications. Additionally, she is a supervisor of master level therapists in private practice, doctoral interns, and practicum/Internship students. She won the 2014 North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (NCACES) Outstanding Supervisor Award, which honors an individual who has demonstrated outstanding work as a supervisor in a university, community/mental health counseling, or school setting, as well as the Ohio Counseling Association Charles Weaver Award.
