Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), refers to traumatic events experienced during childhood includ-ing abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction. Exposure to these categories of trauma increase the risks of negative physical, emotional, and psychological outcomes. These psychological injuries lead to long-term consequences in a variety of ways. The Adverse Childhood Experiences Survey (ACES), assesses the impact of exposure to psychological trauma throughout childhood and provides a framework for ex-amining it in the counseling relationship. It is the intent of this presentation to define ACE, provide evi-dence-based interventions to clinicians, and provide a basic understanding of the Adverse Childhood Ex-periences Survey as well as how to integrate this assessment into clinical practice.

Participants will be able to:

1. Define adverse childhood experiences [ACEs] and describe the 3 categories associated with them

2. Describe the prevalence of ACEs among the general population and risks associated with ACE exposure.

3. Describe the neuroscientific implications of higher ACE exposure.

4. Describe evidence-based practices for responding to ACEs in practice and other organizations.

5. Use, score, and understand the Adverse Childhood Experiences Survey (ACES).
